Introduce us to your band!
Hi, we are an Austrian punk band called Mudfight! We are passionate musicians with big motivation to go on stage and do things our own way! We love having fun, meeting and interacting with people and rocking our asses off!
How did you guys start out?
I basically founded the band, because I wanted to bring punk rock back to the people and make the kind of music that I truly love! I asked our drummer Dominik if he wanted to join me, although I didn’t know him well, and during the next few days we formed a band – first called `Scumbag´! The line-up changed a lot over time until Alex (Guitar) met with us in our hometown. We talked a lot about rock music and the next day, he was our new guitarist.
Describe your band’s sound
Many people describe our sound as a mix of Green Day, AC/DC, Nirvana and The Ramones – it features punchy drums, as catchy as firing basslines and fierce guitar riffs and solos! In one sentence: Nevermind the Dookie, Let There Be Mudfight! (These were the exact words of the owner and our dear friend from our local record store `Good Things´)
What influences your craft?
Awesome live shows, new music by our favourite artists or just life experiences we have to immortalize!
What makes your project different?
Every one of us brings diversity into the band due to the wide variety of our music tastes!
We’re not afraid to try something new and switch genres between our songs. Some songs like Dry Mouth have some grunge vibes, while others could be described as “good vibes songs” like our upcoming track Flash in the Pan. But all in all, we’ll keep that punk style, coming from our personalities and influences.
When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
At the moment we would show them either Wasted or Torn Away – both songs contain our classic sound and a classic Mudfight guitar solo! From our latest release, I would definitely recommend the title track Safe Zone.
What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?
We haven’t had any major struggles yet, but I assume that it’s not that easy to be taken seriously, since there are a lot of artists who quit their career fast because they seem to be disappointed that they didn’t become the next AC/DC.
What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
That´s a hard question, but I would say the following:
- Being the opening-band of the local streetpunk/hardcore band Heckspoiler! The show was awesome! (Check them out on bandcamp)
- Getting our new shirts on display in our town! (Skateshop Hammerschmid, Gmunden)
- Getting recognised by strangers, because of our music. I never felt so good before, it really was incredible!
How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
We are very optimistic, because of the good start we had. We would love to play shows at big festivals and meet new people! Let’s see what we’ll achieve with our EP Safe Zone, which was released on the 12th of June 2020 on all streaming platforms, via our awesome label SBÄM Records!
When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
As a part of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame! Or just as the guys that brought punk rock back to radio. Never quit your dreams -I think that’s what I want people to remember from us!
