Introduce us to your band!
Ifreann are a 5-piece Thrash Metal band from Edinburgh, Scotland.
How did you guys start out?
We started off under a separate name, but the only member from this time still with us is our Drummer Euan. We changed our name to ‘Ifreann’ at the time our bassist, Jacob joined. With two former guitarists, we became a full band once our vocalist, Ian joined in early 2016.
Describe your band’s sound
Listening to Ifreann, the first thing you’ll notice is the classic bay-area thrash sound is a massive influence. The first song we wrote, Hell’s Sentries is straight out of Kill Em All. There is a lot of NWOBHM style duel leads in our music too which gives it more flair. We also have a lot of groovey mid sections, some even bordering on metalcore. There’s also a lot of blast beats in newer material, taking inspiration from OSDM.
What influences your craft?
We just love making and playing heavy music, and sharing it with family and friends who share that love.
What makes your project different?
I feel we have a dedication and work ethic that a lot of other underground bands lack.
When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
I tend to show people the first track on our first full length EP, Mirror Of Sanity. It has all the things I mentioned earlier when describing the band’s sounds. Starts off very thrashy, there’s duel harmony leads after the solo, there’s a groovy mid-section, and death metal blast beats in the verse.
What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?
Not enough days in a week to practice more often.
What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
So far it would be our co-headline tour with our friends Disposable across England. Each show was in a city we’d never played before, yet each show was a blast and we made a lot of nee fans and friends.
How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
We have A LOT planned for the near future, I don’t want to give too much away, but basically it’s tours, tours, and more tours.
When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
We just want to be a band that had fun, wrote great songs and made lots of friends.
