Introduce us to your band!

Fox Violet comprises of myself, Thea (lead vocals), Phoebe (violin, backing vox), Max (bass) and Tito (guitar). We are an indie pop-rock band based out of LA.

How did you guys start out?

We have all been creating music for years individually, and come from all over the USA and I am from the UK. As a group we connected in LA through friends of friends.

Describe your band’s sound.

Dark pop rock. Definitely indie with an ambient influence.

What influences your craft?

Great storytelling. Philosophy. I take a lot of deep inspiration from my dreams as I am a very visual thinker. There is definitely a micro/macro element to them.

What makes your project different?

I think we all come together with our own unique takes on not just music but life and it’s that mix that stands at the center. Lyrically, I’m obsessed with crafting worlds that are both abstract and fantastical but that also could be and should be deeply personal. I want the listener to really imagine themselves in the stories walking around in these worlds like they were in my dream with me.

When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?

I would say currently, Trenches is the song that encapsulated the ambient dream scale nature of the project; but the song, Freak, also truly represents this mythological element to the lyrics embedded in a real life quandary that centers on someone’s perception of feeling like an outsider.

What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?

I think specifically as a woman I’ve been told many times how to dress, how to be on stage, and that I find ridiculous. Musically it’s the same old quest, when you create more indie music it’s harder for industry people it seems to see the clear future you might have in your mind of how you want your career to progress as they still want mainstream artists. I’ve faced a ton of rejection but the thing that keeps me going is a deep connection to the music.

How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?

Being played on the radio in the USA and Australia.

How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?

To record more music and tour.

When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?

As a songwriter who hopefully connected with people.
