With the imminent release of their new album The New Routine, Swedish alt-rock trio Port Noir are set to embark on a new sound packed with intense energy. We caught up with drummer Andreas Wiberg to discuss what the future holds for Port Noir.
Congratulations on the completion of The New Routine. What emotions come along with releasing your music out to the world?
Thank you! I’m very proud of this album and have been waiting quite some time to let everyone hear it, so to finally release some music was really fun and a great relief.
Thematically, what are the ideologies behind your craft – would you say that you have a story to tell?
I can’t say that we have a story to tell. We just want to create music that moves us and hopefully others too.
What fuels, influences and inspires your creative process?
It can be anything, a sound, riff, loop, beat or of course another great song. Also the idea of performing it live inspires me.
What makes Port Noir stand out from the crowd?
I think we have a unique sound of combined Rock, RnB and Pop, without losing our personalities behind our instruments. I think we have the perfect mix and we’re able to deliver it live too.
When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
It will without a doubt be a track from our new album. I would say ’Young Bloods’, that’s my favourite track. If they want something more intense I would show them ’13’.
What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
That’s hard. I’ve done a lot but nothing even close to what I want to do. I never look back either because I’m constantly moving things forward. I think releasing our new album will be a highlight for sure! Then we can start working and push everything forward.
What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?
The wait. I hate to wait between album cycles for example haha..
How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
The future looks bright! The plan is to take Port Noir to the big stages. And our plan is to first, release this new album and then tour, tour and tour.
When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
The music will live forever and talk for itself. But if I will be remembered as a hell of a drummer that always played what was best for the song and did it with confidence, groove and personality. I would be super happy!
‘The New Routine’ is set to release on 10th May 2019 and will be available as CD, LP + CD & as digital album, and is now available to pre-order here:
