- Introduce us to your project!
We are House Handshake. We live together in Winnipeg, Canada. Our goals with the band are about inspiring individuals to create a better community. We believe in art and its impact on the world and we want to help bring people closer to themselves with some really honest music.
- How did you start out?
We started in Vancouver as just Sarah and myself (Quinton). We didn’t even know we wanted to be together in a band at the time but when Darrell moved into the room across the hall everything started to line up in what felt kismet. We left for Winnipeg to start the band and found our other members almost immediately. In 2018 we found a house in the center of the city and launched our first line up of the band. Since then we’ve played over 50 gigs, headlined our first festival, released and received soaring reviews on our EP ‘House’ and now we perform as a six piece band.
- Describe your band’s sound.
Joyful sensual indie-folk.
- What influences your craft?
It’s really the people around us. Our house has a steady flow of music being played by friends that are coming through and every once and a while someone will do or say something that writes the next song. Or they’ll tell us how one of our songs speak to them and it really drives us to work off of these, intangible moments
- What makes your band different? Why should people listen to you?
We offer some very honest music with a very positive vibe. It’s most definitely a unique sound with two strong lead vocals and everyone in the band being so close to each other. It’s easy for us to be genuine. We’ve heard from friends and fans that our chemistry and connection with one another comes through in our playing and performing.
- When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
Procrastination is one of our fans’ favourites. We used to close with it all the time. This song expresses knowing that you are capable of achieving something so much BIGGER than yourself, but how mundane life, struggles, your thoughts, your mind can keep you stagnant.
- What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?
Definitely the large learning curve of the music industry. Now that we’re over a year in and we shook enough hands and things are really starting to make sense.
- What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
Definitely finally being able to hear the songs on our first EP ‘House’ for the first time. We’ve got so many songs and we’ve only been able to imagine them until Lloyd Peterson from Paint Box Studios helped us create them. He did such a great job.
- How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
We’ve got a steady plan in front of us. We have over 50 songs written and this project is #1 to everyone in the band. Stay with us and watch it unfold.
- When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
We hope we inspire some people to move forward and make even more inspiring art. Also, to demonstrate the power of love and creativity.
