1. Introduce us to your band!

Hi, I’m Eric Gynan, guitarist and singer from Leaving Eden, Boston MA Area, USA. Eve is the lead vocalist and Ryan Manning is the drummer and samples.

2. How did you guys start out?

We started out like anybody else with big hopes and dreams. Not having any clue as to what it would really take. Our motto has been to play anywhere anyhow anyway so long as we can. That has proved to be a very successful plan. I’m not really sure how we got our first concert but then after that one thing rolled into the next pretty soon we’re playing with some of the biggest bands in the world.

3. Describe your band’s sound.

We are primarily heavy however we do play some folk-rock metal. I like to think that it’s unique but isn’t all original music unique?

4. What influences your craft?

Life itself definitely influences our craft in terms of writing lyrics. Of course, you have to constantly be listening to new music and the trends to stay up to par. I’m a firm believer in changing with the times and moving forward. Most importantly I really try to tap into the universal mind so to speak. I can pretty much hear the songs first in my mind’s eye and all I have to do is get it down. I actually have to shut it off because there’s always songs playing in my mind.

5. What makes your band different? Why should people listen to you?

I think being tight and efficient is key live. Going out there with confidence is very important because if you go out there and people sense that you’re nervous or not a pro they’re kind of like dogs – they can sense fear and then they’re trying to see how much you fuck up. When you go out there with confidence they accept the fact that you’re pro and now they’re looking for the great things that you’re doing on stage. Eve is incredible at sharing the energy with the crowd and having them participate. I always say Leaving Eden is best heard and seen live.

6. When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?

Right now, our latest album Out of the Ashes, recorded by Johnny K. who is famous for Disturbed, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Megadeth, Pop Evil and the list goes on. We’re good friends and we love his work. So, the title track, Out of the Ashes would be the song which is in a movie in Hollywood coming out soon called Lockdown. It works because the movie is about breaking out and that’s what the song is about.

7. What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?

I think the biggest struggle is the connections. One part is your craft, the other part is your songs and your live show, but the final part is really about who you know. As I said, that’s why we play anywhere anyhow anyway because we never would have met certain key individuals that have helped our careers. You really have to be cool too because if you’re a stuck up and an asshole people don’t want to work with you, pure and simple. So, you really got to take the punches, suck it up and move ahead. In our song Tied And Bound, the lyrics say we’ve been screwed overcharged underpaid and abused we’ve been exploited avoided and falsely accused we’ve been cut down let down fucked around tied and bound but nothing could take the music away. I think that explains it pretty clearly.

8. What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?

Playing with great bands like Black Sabbath, Shinedown, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice in Chains, Seether and the list goes on and on. Getting to meet some of these people and watching how they hone in on their craft. Learning from the greats. We got to play with Dimebag before he passed away and Ronnie James Dio. Stuff like that can never happen again. So yeah definitely playing big concerts is where it’s at.

9. How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?

We feel it’s very bright! We have plans to continue touring the world and Hollywood movies! Three songs off our Out of the Ashes album are to be Featured in the following Movie’s/TV Series;

“Lockdown” Movie Director: Massimiliano Cerchi

Song: Out of the Ashes

Movie “Mayday” Movie Director: Massimiliano Cerchi

Song: Skies of Grey

Movie/TV Series “Jezebeth” Written/Directed by Damien Dante

Song: No Soul

Damien Dante has scripted us in as a band of Vampires and we will have some lines and perform on stage, we are heading to the Midwest now for the shoot!

10. When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?

I guess we would like to be remembered as a band that struggled like everybody else that overcame and conquered. Would also be remembered as a band with songs of Hope and good will.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us!

Shit yeah! It’s been my pleasure and see ya on the other side, Peace!!
