1. Introduce us to your band!
Band this is Wavebyte, Wavebyte this is band! JUST KIDDING!!!!! Ok. Hail The Hatter is Jonathan Boos on vocals, Dax Cartar on guitars and piano, Nicholai Assam on drums, Aaron Lowchewtung on Bass, Nicholas Marsan on harmonies, and Satan on triangle!
2. How did you guys start out?
Well, Jonathan had just moved back home from Florida, and he had been missing playing music. So, he reached out to a friend that he knew was tapped into the local scene, and that friend put him in touch with Mr. Dax Charles Cartar! So, those two got together to jam and soon realized they had both been missing the same things in modern rock. They both found that modern rock was taking itself way too seriously. It seemed as though modern rock musicians had forgotten they were playing rock music, which is supposed to have a sense of irreverence, wildness, and fun. So, they decided to form a band that would focus on brining all those things back. Quickly they added Nicholai Assam on drums and Devin Harry Paul on bass. Fairly quickly, five songs were written, and we started to make plans to enter the studio. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, Devin had to leave the band, and Aaron was quickly added. Right after that, a sixth song was written, and we headed into the studio to write the E.P. that would become “Discovering Light”.
3. Describe your band’s sound
If Black Label Society, Pantera, and Black Sabbath had a torrid affair, and then left the fruit of their loins to be raised by Guns n’ Roses and Judas Priest, that child would be Hail The Hatter.
4. What influences your craft?
Mood more than anything else. Whenever we write something we always start by deciding on the mood we want to achieve with the song. The music comes after.
5. What makes your band different? Why should people listen to you?
We have two rules when writing music in Hail The Hatter. Rule number 1: never restrict ourselves to a particular style or sound, and rule number 2: every song must have a sense of fun. When you listen to Hail The Hatter, you will hear a mixture of many things. Old school metal leads, soaring vocals, modern metal guitar tones, driving bass and drums. At times we can sound like the metal you grew up with, at others we can contend with any modern band. But, throughout it all, you will bang your head and have a blast!!!
6. When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
The quintessential track would have to be “Bone Grin”. It really encapsulates our sound completely. What’s even crazier is that it was the first song we wrote. It’s a little insane that we hit on our signature sound on the first try. We had never played together before and that song happened in practically one night.
7. What has been the biggest struggle of your career so far?
We’ve been very lucky so far. We have been well received by nearly everyone who has heard us. And we think we’ve made a pretty great E.P. So, we would say right now is probably our biggest struggle, getting as many people as possible around the world to hear our music. Which is why our album is available for FREE download on our website www.hailthehatter.com. We just want people to hear it, we don’t care about the money! So please jam the record, share it all over social media, and tell your friends.
8. What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
Two things. We recently won a chance to compete for a spot at Wacken Metal Battle 2018. Getting into the final 5 of that competition was pretty great. And the second biggest highlight would be holding our album in our hands for the first time. We know it’s an outdated technology, but we all grew up with CDs. So, holding our first CD in our hand and seeing our album art was epic. Even more epic than hearing our song on the radio for the first time.
9. How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
The future is so bright we can’t even wear shades, we are going to rip out our eyeballs and keep them in a box beneath the bed! But all kidding aside, the future is as bright for us as the fans out there and the people reading this interview want it to be. So please download the album and share with your friends, and hopefully one day we get to come to a town near you, play some kick-ass rock and drink some beers!!!
10. When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
As a kick-ass metal band that made you remember what it was like to lose your mind banging your head, driving too fast and drinking too much beer!
