1. Introduce us to your band!
Skitarg is a clown metal band from Sweden who play melodic metal mixed with thrash and black metal and sprinkled with absurdity, a touch of comedy and an assfisting of insanity.
2. How did you guys start out?
Me (Barnet) and the other singer, Necrofilip, had played in a band called Head for seven years prior to Skitarg, so after Head ended we missed each other and wanted to start a recording project where we could explore a more aggressive venue of music.
People seemed to like the demos so we put together a band, and the rest is history. Or herstory. Let´s just call it gendernonspecificistory.
3. Describe your band’s sound.
Most verses are disharmonic and have growl in them, a lot of the choruses are more melodic with catchy vocals. But we also go outside of the typical metal song structures, as for example För Att Få Ligga a 17-minute-long acoustic medley of all our songs from the first three albums, featuring cello, ukulele, kazoo and piano (instruments you won´t be seeing us use live too often).
4. What influences your craft?
Me and Necrofilip have this thing for harmonies linking and contrasting to each other so you´ll find a lot of vocal arrangements and twin/triple/quadruple guitar harmonies in our music.
Band-wise I´d say Megadeth, In Flames, Meshuggah, Satyricon, Pantera and Opeth have influenced me a lot.
5. What makes your band different? Why should people listen to you?
We are entertaining onstage, write beautiful and aggressive music, wear clown makeup and throw blood-covered dildos around on stage. What´s not to like?
6. When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
I think that would probably be Jag Bryter Nacken Av Din Häst. Check out the video here:
7. What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?
Getting through to people who make up their minds about our music based on how we look. The visual aspect has worked in our favour in the bigger picture, but you can tell that a lot of people who don´t like us, haven´t really listened to the music.
8. What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
So far it would be playing Metaltown Festival 2012 with 4000 in the audience. That´s a big crowd for a band like us.
9. How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
Well, the future is gloomy, but that´s mostly because of the impending doom sprung from over-consumption and uneven distribution of economic means while concentrating power where financial gain is the only driving principle and thus creating a perverted, unsustainable and socially corrupt society that thrives on quick dopamine fixes from instaflows and likes and that couldn´t possibly continue longer than 20 years before a huge collapse.
But WE have a bunch of gigs lined up, so no worries! Check out our gigs in the app BandsInTown!
10. When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
As a five-foot-tall Romanian woman, carrying two bags of ocelot snouts.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us!
