1. Introduce us to your band!
The band is basically me and my husband on the recordings, but we get in friends to play the instruments for us when we gig live. The music has got a rock base but takes influence from industrial, grunge, soul, folk and electronic – so it’s quite mixed!
2. How did you guys start out?
I’d some back from touring with a band called Pendragon as their backing vocalist, and I was shocked at how many of their fans were asking whether they could buy my music, I didn’t have anything out despite having written songs singe the age of about 13 – I’d not had the confidence to actually release anything. So, Alex (my husband – who also happens to be a musician!) and I sat down and talked through the idea of starting to work on some releases together, and that was it!
3. Describe your band’s sound
It’s so hard to describe because we take influence from so many places. I think the main vibes are definitely rock-industrial-grunge but with a strong female vocal. There’s definitely a lot of variety in the music, and lot of dynamics in the feel of the songs. I would love to get someone to actually write me a few sentences on what we sound like so I can quote it, I get so confused trying to describe it!
4. What influences your craft?
Everything I live through influences it in some way. Music is part of expression for me and so it comes entirely from things I’ve lived through – I think that helps people connect with the songs.
5. What makes your band different? Why should people listen to you?
Because I find it so hard to explain what it sounds like!!
6. When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
Personally, I love Exhale from the new album, it’s actually the new single as well. It’s got a lot of different dynamics in it, soft close sections, and massive rock choruses, and it deals with personal issues I think people can grasp onto.
7. What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?
Definitely money! You want to go and do all the things but it costs so much, to get tours booked, merchandise printed CDs pressed, music recorded, it’s an ongoing struggle. I wish I could make all the t-shirts that fans request and go to every venue but it’s just not possible.
8. What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
Actually having people that listen to and genuinely love my music and what I’m doing. That is such a perfect feeling!
9. How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
Considering we only started out last year, we’ve got a lot to do – and I don’t back down from hard work so expect more music, more gigs and generally just MORE as the years move on. I’m excited for what the future holds and won’t be stopping any time soon!
10. When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
As an amazing vocalist, but mostly as a friendly and honest person.
