Introduce us to your band!
Charly&Faust is an Indie-Folk-Rock band lead by two women, composed of Faust (Lead singer), Charly (Lead singer, rhythm guitar), Coralie Hervé (Drums and pad), Jefferson Fichou (Lead Guitar, backing vocals), Eric Reymond (Bass, backing Vocals) and Nathan Lorber (Keys).
How did you guys start out?
Faust: Charly and I started to play music together few years ago in France. First it was just for fun and on very small projects.
Charly: Once we both moved out to LA, we met the other members of the band. Most of them were going to the school I attended, The Musicians Institute. We got really lucky to meet them. It took a little time to get the actual band configuration, but that was worth the wait!
Describe your band’s sound
Faust: People describe our style as Indie-Rock-Folk. For my part I would add that there are some psychedelic touches in our sound.
Charly: We have a lot of influences, because everybody is listening to different music genres in the band. But the main idea is to stick in an Indie-Rock style and then to add the influences of everybody to it. I think that having two female vocalists is part of our uniqueness in this style of music.
What influences your craft?
Charly: It is a mix of what kind of music our idols do, but also the way they direct their team and treat their bandmates or members. I love Tracy Chapman, Lady Gaga, Patty Smith, Foo Fighters, but not only for their musical talent. I admire them for the way they build their project and their team work. That influences me a lot. It is hard to be respectful and thankful, but strict at the same time.
Faust: I have a bunch of influences, a few of them are The Beatles, The Runaways, Pat Benatar, Coldplay, Nancy Sinatra, Lana del Rey, The Black Keys, etc.
What makes your band different? Why should people listen to you?
Charly: We are doing everything to get better every day. We are young, and we know we can go further in our music, develop more our sound. But you can still enjoy our music *laughs*. And the most important point, we are a big family and you can definitely feel that on stage.
Faust: I think we don’t really have a tag. If we still need to work on our sound, I think we already have something pretty special that really defines our music. It comes from our powerful lyrics and our melodies that get stuck in your head! I guess you’ll have to listen to it and judge by yourself!
When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
Faust: I think first you should make them listen to “Asshole” first, then “Her”, “It’s Weird Outside”, “Your Fear”, “Run For My Soul” and finally “No Rush”. Make them listen to all of our songs! You will raise your chance to get them loving our music!
Charly: The one that our audience really loves is “It’s Weird Outside” composed by our bass player, Eric. But the one that might represent our band’s sound the best might be “No Rush”. And we have a music video on YouTube for this one, so you will be able to really show them the song and the band at the same time! *laughs*.
What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?
Charly: Having enough financial support to continue improving our art and spray it to the world.
Faust: I don’t think that I have really been in a struggle situation, for now, I just go with the flow and make music without asking myself any questions.
What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
Faust: My biggest highlight is when I see in people’s eyes the emotions I am trying to transmit when I sing.
Charly: The support of our friends and the release of our EP “Wild World”.
How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
Charly: 2018 will be a good year for us. I’m not just saying that because I am an optimistic person and I believe in the band. I mean we worked so hard, and are still working for it and we have beautiful projects coming up!
Faust: We are going to record a new song and shoot this amazing video project! But I can’t tell you more about it for now. You will have to wait and follow us on Facebook and Instagram if you want to learn more about it. Of course, we have some shows in the next few months, and maybe a tour next year who knows?
When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
Faust: As an artist with a heart full of love.
Charly: I don’t want to be remembered. I just want my music to be remembered. And it would never be done until I die. There are always things to say. Especially in our actual society!
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us!
Charly: Thanks a lot to you for your interest and your questions.
